ASOMEX
The International American School of Cancún is the newest member of the Association of American Schools of Mexico (ASOMEX). ASOMEX schools offer international students an American type educational program in a bilingual-bicultural learning environment, while also meeting the requirements of the Mexican Secretariat of Education. The purpose of this organization is to share ideas, programs, and experiences of its 19 member schools.
Throughout the year students are offered opportunities to travel and participate in athletic tournaments, workshops, and arts and music festivals at other American schools in Mexico.
These experiences contribute to the relationships that are formed among the students, teachers, parents, and administrators of the member schools.
Students at IAS have participated in the following ASOMEX events:
- Creative Writing – Our middle and high school students have attended these workshops (held in English and Spanish) in Monterrey and Queretaro
- Sports Competitions (soccer, volleyball, tennis, golf, etc.) Students have participated in golf and tennis in Puerto Vallarta, and this year we also hope to send a team to the volleyball tournament in Puebla.
- Model UN Simulations - Since 2003, IAS students have travelled to Monterrey in February to take part in IMMUNS, the simulation organized by students at the American School Foundation of Monterrey.
Each year teachers and administrators also attend ASOMEX conferences. The director, athletic director, and business manager travel to various locations, meeting with their counterparts and discussing ways to advance ideals and standards of the teaching professions and of administrative leadership.
