Holidays

Holidays are an important part of every school community. Most of our holiday celebrations combine traditional Mexican customs with an international flavor. Our holiday celebrations include the following:

Student's Day: Students are celebrated in different ways on their special day. For the past few years the secondary students have gone to a local water park, on boat trips to Isla Mujeres, and to movie premiers.  Different activities are planned each year, depending on the interests of the students.

Winter Holiday Program: This comes just before the winter holidays, and the entire school participates. Each yearthe program has a different theme; in 2007 the drama class presented the play “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” In past years students have presented traditional Mexican pastoral plays and programs based on the Las Vegas Show the Blue Man Group.  After the program the school community enjoys a potluck dinner.

Valentines: In Mexico Valentine's Day is a time not just to honor love, but also to honor friends. Students celebrate with class parties and by sending lollipops and cards to friends.

Parents' Night: Parents are honored with a special program at the end of May.  Students and teachers join together toprepare skits, songs, poems, and videos, all designed to thank parents for their important role.

Mexican Independence Day - September 15: The IAS Chapter of the National Honor Society, with help from the Student Council, is in charge of organizing the celebration of this important holiday. Students all wear green, white, and red, and enjoy typical Mexican food at lunch. Students enjoy a refreshing water balloon fight at lunch, and relive Hidalgo’s famous charge of “Viva México!” reenacted from the school’s second story balcony.
